- Bone broth is my favorite. Broths made with meat provide a boost of protein that doesn’t make you feel heavy. This is a great snack to have before going to bed. It’s flavorful and light. Warm drinks are also soothing and comforting. Add a few vegetables to the meal for extra nutrients and to complete it. It’s always good to use frozen chopped spinach, collard greens, or kale. Fresh leafy greens also work well.
- Scrambled eggs – Everyone loves breakfast for dinner. In this case it is a healthy and quick snack as long as you don’t eat bacon, biscuits, or pancakes. I usually scramble 2 eggs or keep a carton of whites in the fridge. Add some hot sauce and salt to taste. Easy to prepare, eggs are a good source of protein.
- Turkey Cheese Lettuce wraps – Imagine a breadless, mustard-flavored sandwich. Fill a lettuce cup with turkey and a slice or two of cheese. Drizzle with some mustard.
- This is the easiest salad you can make. It’s not even necessary to throw it. Place half of the silken tofu in a bowl and plate it. Pour ponzu, soy sauce or sesame oil over the tofu, and top it with furikake, pickled ginger. Enjoy with a fork! This snack is packed with protein and tastes great. This snack will make you feel super satisfied.
- Tomato Cucumber Bite – Select a whole grain cracker or slice of bread. Toast the cracker or bread if you’re using it. Add diced tomatoes and cucumbers. Sprinkle olive oil and balsamic with pepper and salt. Spread goat cheese or hummus on the bread for an extra boost of protein.
- Flat bread – If you’re craving something more substantial or junk food on those nights, this is the ideal alternative. Toss some low moisture, low fat mozzarella over the top and sprinkle with chili flakes or oregano for a kick of flavor. You can also add thinly sliced mushroom to the mix to make it a little more exciting.
- Yogurt is a great option when you want to satisfy your sweet tooth but don’t want to spend the night tossing around in bed thinking about that cookie, ice cream bar or other treat you would like. Keep your favorite plain yogurt handy to satisfy these cravings. Siggi’s Icelandic Yogurt is thicker and creamier compared to other brands. Add blueberries, strawberries or pineapple to your yogurt and drizzle a light amount of agave on top. Sprinkle some nuts or sugar-free dark chocolate chips over the yogurt. Make a parfait or “sundae”, with different textures to make you feel as if you’re indulging. You can satisfy your sweet tooth at night without feeling guilty.
